The ongoing latency in the Google Search Console Performance report has created rumors throughout the SEO community that it’s an unconfirmed Core Update.
Google’s Senior Search Analyst, John Mueller, has said this isn’t the case and explained why the delay isn’t showing on the Google Search Status Dashboard.
In reply to the unsubstantiated rumor of a Core Update, John posted on LinkedIn:
- “To be direct, no, this is not an unconfirmed core update; we’ll announce it when it’s time. In general, reporting is independent of the process of making ranking updates.”
Delay won’t show on the status dashboard
In another LinkedIn forum discussion, John answered a question about why the status delay isn’t showing on the Google Search Status Dashboard.
Rüdiger Dalchow asked on LinkedIn:
- “It is now showing a 71-hour update delay, and the Google Search Status Dashboard still has no information on this.”
Mueller explained Google reserves the Status Dashboard for core search systems, such as crawling, indexing, or ranking. As delay is only a reporting issue (with no impact on core ranking), it won’t show in this report.
John Mueller’s full explanation on LinkedIn:
John’s reply explains why the Search Performance report delay isn’t on the Google Search Status Dashboard and finishes with a joke!
- “Sorry! Should I check with the team about adding an extra 10% to numbers in the reports after the data is back 🙂 ?”

The latest delay update from Google
On July 3 at 1:58 PM, Google posted its latest update to the latency on X, saying it’s going to take a couple of days to catch up:
Ongoing effects on websites
The good news is that Google knows the problem and should resolve it within 48 hours. It isn’t an issue with your site, as it’s affecting all property reports within Google Search Console. However, as the search performance report latency continues, site owners who rely on it for SEO reporting must stay patient and remain hopeful that Google will catch up soon!
