Google has updated its Search Console Performance report with filters that stick, streamlining navigation and improving data analysis.

New sticky filters bind performance reports

Google`s new feature sticks to your last setting, allowing you to set filters for one performance report and carry those filters over when switching to another.

For example, the filters you set for search results will now remain when navigating between Search results, Google News, and Discovery.

Google provides what people want

Google said it added the new feature in reply to an overwhelming community request.

Here`s Google`s recent sticky filters update announcement on social media:

Google also added a handy “reset filters” button to the right of the sticky filters, enabling you to clear any set filters.

Tab navigation made easy

Google Search Advocate Daniel Waisberg posted an explanation of how to use the new feature.

Danial said:

  • “When clicking on a row in a specific tab in the Search console performance report, the report will automatically switch to the Queries tab. If you`re already in the Queries tab, the report will automatically switch to the Pages tab.”

Here`s Danial’s post on X:

Additional improvements

Daniel also mentioned an additional improvement to the platform’s navigation that came with the update.

While his post on X looks similar, Daniel said the additional improvement “might sound small, but can save a lot of clicks!”

Weisberg took to LinkedIn to explain the change:

Publishers aren`t celebrating

Google`s announcement of the sticky filters update was upbeat, with a party and winking emojis. However, many publishers and site owners didn`t join the celebration.

Here are some publisher’s responses to Google`s sticky filters announcement on X:

One small business owner said:

  • Who gives a hoot about a sticky filter when they are crushing small businesses?

A publisher was a little mad:

  • “Not trying to be ungrateful or sound rude (I am mad at this point, though) but the content on Google won`t be there if we publishers won`t write it. And you backstabbed us by ruining our rankings.”

And another was a smidge cynical:

  • “Where`s the Reddit logo on this? They`re the only “publisher” that has any use for it.”

Yikes! Those responses bring to mind John Lydgate`s quote, “You can’t please all the people all the time.”

How the update might help

Google said its update might save you time, and the new sticky filter should, as it allows you to flow between performance reports, Queries, and Pages tab.

However, while it`ll streamline your workflow in Search, remember your filters are now stuck before exporting any SEO data.
